How can a winter image feel warm? Yet, when I see the golden sun and the expanse of sky my heart goes warm and opens up wide.
A photograph others labeled a mistake became my inspiration for my first self-portrait. The first in a series of images that focus on the complicated patterns found in nature, this picture speaks to the perfection of nature’s design in the ripples on the water and the imperfection of the human attempt to capture it in the photograph.
The sun is going down behind the violet field, backlighting it and washing out the sky. Nearby a loud, fast trout stream flies by. It will be dark sooner than you think.
Sitting in a kayak, close to the water I was afforded a unique perspective of the lake. I paused for a moment, noticing this small inlet and was struck by the fact that it felt paradoxically mysterious and friendly. With the sun close to setting, the waves caught the color in the light.
